Major General Abid Rafique (Retd) was commissioned in Pakistan Army in September 1984. During his 35 years’ service, he served on various command, staff and instructional appointments. He has a unique distinction of serving in an Artillery Regiment, Infantry Regiment and Special Services Group of Pakistan Army. Other important assignments during his military service include command of Special Services Group, raising / operationalization of Special Security Division for China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as General Officer Commanding and Director General Infantry, General Headquarters, Rawalpindi. He has also been on the faculty of premier institution like Pakistan Military Academy, Kakul and National Defence University, Islamabad. He also has the experience of operating under United Nation as a Military Observer and member of Pakistan Contingent in United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone (UNMSIL).
He is a graduate of Command and Staff College Quetta, Armed Forces War College and US Marine War College- MCU, Quantico, Virginia, USA. He holds Masters’ Degrees in Strategic Studies, and War Studies.
